Mobilize

Spring has sprung and the torrent of rain has subsided.  the earth was deemed dry enough to schedule the excavators and ditch-digging equipment.  after many years of planning, drawing, visualizing, permitting, public hearings, negotiating, grubbing, faxing, politicking, re-grouping, estimating, waiting and hoping..  ground was broken this week.  since the bank is still shuffling papers and there's no indication of when the loan will fund, the builder is starting on utilities, trenching, septic and leach-field earth work outside of the house footprint.  direct work on the structure is, technically, prohibited until the loan funds.

Never has a pile of red dirt looked so good.

when the rain comes

kauai has been hit with massive rains over the last two weeks, making any progress at the site impossible.  the dust fence is up, but no excavation can commence without making a huge mess.  it's sunny today, but everything is soaking wet, still.  the island has suffered economically and structurally, with all business coming to a standstill, roads and bridges closed, etc

since business has pretty much shut down, there has been no progress on closing the loan.  actually, a step back was taken last week when the bank lost the contract and the builder had to make another copy and deliver it to the bank.  you can't make this stuff up.
